Arsenal Boss Wenger To Receive An Apology After Sending Off Against Manchester United
The Frenchman's banishment to the Old Trafford stands was uncalled for, it seems...
In Arsenal's closely contested contest against Manchester United, Gunners manager Arsene Wenger found himself sent to the stands by the referee towards the end of the match.
With his side losing 2-1, Wenger kicked a water bottle as a reaction to a late offside call, resulting in the fourth official consulting with match official Mike Dean and the French tactician being banished from the dugout.
The match official's instructions left Wenger aimlessly climbing the Old Trafford dugout, with the Arsenal manager enduring the taunts of the nearby Red Devils fans.
League Managers Association chief executive Richard Bevan has called for Wenger to receive an apology and has confirmed he has been in contact with the Premier League Game Match Officials Board.
Bevan told Sky Sports, "Although correct in 'law', it was completely out of context in the game and it was followed by the nonsense which followed over where Arsene Wenger should sit.
"I've spoken to (Premier League referees chief) Keith Hackett and he fully recognises the situation was an error and an apology will follow to Arsene Wenger.
"Lee Probert totally failed to manage the situation and created a needless pressure point taking the focus away from the pitch in a big event with only a minute to go."
