Arsene Wenger: Next 24 Hours Key In Kolo Toure Switch To Manchester City
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said Manchester City's move for Kolo Toure is far from complete, but could be in more advanced stages by the end of today.
The Citizens are thought to be offering around £14 million for the Ivory Coast international, with the Gunners understood to be willing to accept.
Wenger believes the club has enough cover for the loss of a central defender, including new signing Thomas Vermaelen, but is not set on parting ways with Toure just yet.
Talking to Arsenal TV, Wenger said, "We will see what's happening in the next 24 hours, nothing is decided yet.
"We have seven centre-backs and I am in the position where I have to play some in midfield. Of course, Kolo is a very good player and we will see what will happen in the next 24 hours."
Arsenal have already generated £25m this summer from the sale of striker Emmanuel Adebayor to the same club.
Wenger has hinted he could be looking at possible signings to spend the money on, but will only move when the time is right.
"I am more focused on getting everybody fit for the start of the season but we are looking at opportunities as well, there are still some pre-season games to see what we really need," the Frenchman explained.
"When the time comes, we will do something."
