Official: Adams Named Portsmouth Boss
Portsmouth have confirmed that Tony Adams is the new manager of the Fratton Park side...
Following Saturday's whirlwind of activity on the managerial merry-go-round, when Juande Ramos was sacked by Tottenham Hotspur and Pompey gaffer Harry Redknapp named as his White Hart Lane successor, Tony Adams has been placed in the Fratton Park hotseat.
The rookie boss will take over with immediate effect. Chairman Peter Storrie confirmed on Tuesday afternoon: "I know we said we'd take our time a little bit but we had a think about it, had a chat with Tony and we feel he's done a tremendous job here and thoroughly deserves this opportunity to manage the club.
"He's not only popular among the board and people working at the club but, as was shown on Sunday, it's a popular decision for the supporters."
Hard Act To Follow
The club has confirmed that the former Arsenal and England defender has signed a two-year deal, after expressing his interest to Storrie and owner Alexandre Gaydamak immediately following 'Arry's departure.
Delighted Adams said after being unveiled: "It's fantastic. I'm very honoured, it's a great opportunity and one I would be mad to turn down.
"We've got some great players here at Portsmouth and I've been kind of responsible, with Harry, for bringing them to the club.
"I am going to take this opportunity and risk, because Harry's done a fantastic job for this club and is a hard act to follow. But I think it is my time, I think I am ready."
He went on to reveal that he sought Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger's advice when approached on Monday evening, saying, "I spoke to Arsene last night for advice and he said, 'welcome to hell!'
"I replied, 'are you scared? Because I'm coming for you!'"
Emotional Wenger himself told Sky Sports, "This makes me very happy. I believe it is a good opportunity for him and we wish him well of course."
Adams went on to outlined his key objectives for the season, including the defence of the FA Cup Redknapp bagged at Wembley last term.
He would not comment on his potential No.2, rumoured to be Martin Keown, but did insist that he doesn't intend to force current first-team coach Joe Jordan out the door.
