Luis Aragones Lined Up To Replace Manuel Pellegrini At Real Madrid - Report
It is believed that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is determined to make the next managerial choice himself, with no input from general director Jorge Valdano, and he is considering appointing Luis Aragones if Manuel Pellegrini is dispensed with.
El Mundo believes that Pellegrini has two games with which to save his job - the Madrid derby against Getafe on Saturday, and Tuesday's trip to Milan. Should results continue to go against him, he could find himself unemployed.
Perez is a fan of the former Spanish national coach, who is currently out of work after an unsuccessful stint with Fenerbahce. Though Raul may have something to say about the appointment, the supremo is confident that any problems can be overcome.
There is a large obstacle, however. Sport believes that the coach's two year deal, worth €5.5 million-per-season, forms a huge stumbling block in Perez's plans to replace him.
The paper states that Pellegrini's pay-off would be almost €11m - around the sum that Cristiano Ronaldo earns in a year. Should things go wrong this weekend, the supremo must decide whether cutting costs is a priority or if cutting out the Chilean is more important.
