Arsenal.com is 2008 UK Website of the Year
Arsenal.com has been named best sports website at the 2008 UK Website of the Year awards.
The Gunners' official club website received the highest average rating for content, design and navigation in the sports category. More than 1.5 million votes were cast as UK web users selected their favourite websites in 22 categories.
"We ask the public to rate the content, navigation and design of websites because these three factors form the user experience of the website," said Frans-Anton van Gils, Project Manager of MetrixLab/Website of the Year.
"If you have good content but bad navigation you won't be so popular. In Arsenal's case it is the best sports website and this year 1.5 million people voted so it is a real endorsement of its quality and popularity.
"Awards are often based on how many clicks each website gets but that does not always mean those websites are the best, so we chose a more considered rating system."
Richard Clarke, Managing Editor of Arsenal.com,said: "This is a big award for us. The online sports sector is hugely competitive so it is fantastic to come out on top.
"We like to think we are the first port of call for any Arsenal fan, present the Club in the right way and, at times, set the news agenda.
"We also try to lead the way in our audio/video content and this year we have introduced a new Matchday Show with three-and-a-half hours of coverage on each game. So we hope we can retain this prize in 2009."
Website of the Year is a pan-European initiative by online research agency MetrixLab, Europe's largest online market research agency.
